Founded in 1910, the Contemporary Art Society exists to develop public collections of contemporary art in the UK.

Our work to develop public collections of contemporary art is central to our mission.
We gift new works of contemporary art to our UK-wide network of Member Museums and provide programmes of professional development and exchange in order to build capacity and knowledge within and about these collections through our National Network.
We offer various membership and patronage schemes for those who wish to learn more about contemporary art and collecting, and to support our work to develop public collections.

A Private Affair – Personal Collections of Contemporary Art
2010 was our centenary year. During the past 100 years we have donated more than 8,000 works to public collections in the UK where they are enjoyed by audiences everywhere.
In 2010, we marked our centenary through a programme of events, talks, displays and projects developed in close partnership with our sixty-four Member Museums and Galleries.
We organise a major fundraising event every year, which raises vital funds to purchase new works of contemporary art for public collections in the UK.
