statement

In drawings, videos, performances and installations I investigate themes of transition and transformation often inspired by flora and fauna, with a special interest in food or that which sometimes becomes food - from its cultivation and preparation to its consumption and decay. I explore themes of the staged and theatrical, the mystical and strange, the decadent and morbid, the surreal and weird, creating often hilarious and provoking scenes, hybrid beings, still lives and anthropomorphized omnivores, at times threatening and sinister, at times playful. I am particularly interested in the tension between the boundaries of seduction and repulsion. Captured in mid-story, the frivolous, almost innocent-looking aesthetic of the works reveals images from an internalized world that continually evades any complete reading. Dealing with appetites, sometimes overflowing, obsessive and compulsive - the deceptive innocence of the work hovers between the mundane and the sensuous, the absurd and the sexual, transforming ordinary events or objects into possibly intriguing experiences.
