biography

Peter Finnemore is an artist working within photographic art and video.

Born in Llanelli, Wales in 1963, Peter Finnemore was one of the first student intakes at the new Fine Art Photography Course set up in 1984 by Thomas Joshua Cooper at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. Here he received a BA Hons in Fine Art Photography and Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art (1984–88). He later studied at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA where he gained an MFA in Photography (1992-94). Finnemore's first major exhibition was in 1986, where he participated in New Contemporaries, ICA, London.

Finnemore has since exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including representing Wales at the 51st Venice Biennale (2005).

Major published works include Gwendraeth House (Ffotogallery, 2000) and Zen Gardener (Oriel Mostyn, 2004). His artworks are included in a number of private and public collections including The Art Museum at Princeton University, New Jersey, USA, The Chrysler Museum of Art, Virginia, USA, Arts Council of Great Britain, Scottish Arts Council and National Museums of Wales Collection.

Finnemore is currently Researcher / Lecturer in Photography at Swansea Metropolitan University and Visiting Professor in Photography at the University of Derby.

Recent major exhibitions include The Silent Village, Turner House, Penarth, Wales (2010), touring to DOX – Centre for Contemporary Art on Prauge and Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno in 2011.

Finnemore lives and works in Llanelli, Wales.
